The S&P 500 had sported a gain of more than 5% only minutes before the toll of the closing bell, but some late selling pressure caused it to settle off of its session high. As a result, the stock market couldn't quite surpass what was achieved this past Tuesday, when the stock market swung 6% from its session low to its session high to score its best single-session gain since a 7% surge in March 2009.
After the close, ELX, DV, BYI, GRM, ANAC, AMCN, MCP, BODY, DAR, DRYS, ISS, JWN, NVDA, RRGB, HOKU, RENN, EPAY, KIOR, AL are the most notable names scheduled to report earnings results.
Futures are lower after hours: S&P 500 futures are -2.84 from fair value of 1170.04 and Nasdaq100 futures are -6.6% from fair value of 2164.6.
Tomorrow morning before the open, one economic report is scheduled to be released: Retail sales (Consensus 409K) and Retail sales ex-auto (Consensus 0.2%).
