Humana (HUM $73.57 -1.01) reported second quarter earnings of $2.50
per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.45 better than the Capital IQ
Consensus Estimate of $2.05.
Revenues rose 8.1% year/year to $9.28 billion versus the $9.42 billion
consensus, with total premiums and services revenue also up 8% compared to the
prior year's quarter. The year-over-year increase in premiums and services
revenue primarily reflected an increase in the revenues in both the company's
Retail and Health and Well-Being Services segments, partially offset by a
decline in revenues in the company's Employer Group segment.
For the third quarter, the company expects to see earnings of $1.95 to $2.05,
excluding non-recurring items, versus $1.96 Capital IQ Consensus Estimate.
For its fiscal year 2011, the company raised earnings expectations to $7.50 to
$7.60, excluding non-recurring items, from $6.70 to $6.90 versus the $7.09
Capital IQ Consensus Estimate. On the top line, the company reaffirmed its
revenue guidance at $36.5 billion to $37.0 billion versus the $36.82 billion
Capital IQ Consensus Estimate.
